Recitation 1
Recitation notes for the week of August 28, 2017.
Course Overview
We will briefly discuss some things related to how one can do well in CSE 331.
One Stop Shop
The CSE 331 webpage if your one stop shop for all things CSE 331 related. In particular, the following webpages might be especially useful:
Pay attention to policies and instructions
There will be very particular instructions on HW submission as well as policies on what is allowed and what is not. Please pay close attention to these: not following them could lead to penalties including loss of points or changes in your final letter grade.
Proofs
CSE 331 will involve a lot of proofs. In this recitation, we will first do an overview and then talk about proof by induction.
Why do proofs?
We will (quickly) go over some of the arguments in support page on proofs.
Proofs in English
In this course, we will do (and you will submit in your homeworks) proofs in English. As an example to illustrate why this is a good idea, we will go over the Asleep in class
problem in this video by Alan Cline :
Proofs by Induction
We will go over the proof by induction support page. In particular, we will focus on the structural induction proofs.
