Vizier
Details on Vizier, which will be used for in-class activities in CSE 410.
What is Vizier?
Vizier is a notebook that is being co-developed by our very own Oliver Kennedy as a replacement for other existing notebooks like Jupyter.
From the perspective of this class, Vizier is better since it allows for "widgets" that give a nice user interface to non-programmers to use, modify and create their own notebooks. There are tons of other great reason, for which see the Vizier webpage or just watch a video where Oliver walks you through the nifty features:
Accessing Vizier
While you can download and install Vizier on your machine and work on it that way, thanks to the great Vizier folks we will be using it via an online server (i.e. you do not have to install Vizier on your machine if you are so inclined).
Using Vizier in CSE 410
Follow these steps to use Vizier:
- Go to this page .
- If you are registered in CSE 410, there is already an account created for you: go ahead and log in with your UBIT username and password.
- That's it-- you're done! Feel free to explore Vizier after that
- The Vizier notebooks that we will be using in this course will be listed on the notebooks page.
Want to know more?
Peruse the Vizier documentation page for more details on how to use various aspects of Vizier.
Reporting issues
If you run into issues when using Vizier, I would recommend the following workflow:
- Post your issue on Piazza to see if anyone else has had the same issue and/or if they have a "fix."
- If after the piazza discussion, it turns out that you have found an issue that should be fixed in Vizier itself, please report the issue directly to the Vizier folks .
